George Alpine
George is a consultant in the Executries and Trusts Department of the firm. He was educated at Strathallen School in Perthshire and Aberdeen University where he qualified LLB in 1968. He was apprenticed to the Aberdeen firm of Paull & Williamsons after graduating and became a partner of that firm in 1975. He joined Burnett & Reid as a consultant in 2006. George is accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in private client tax. His principal responsibility in this area is to help clients to calculate their exposure to capital tax, inheritance tax in particular, and to help them to arrange their affairs in such a way as to minimise their liability to tax. He also provides help and guidance to elderly clients and their families in connection with care and accommodation, administration of their affairs, and succession planning. Resolution of succession disputes, preparation of powers of attorney and executry administration also fall within George’s area of responsibility. George has for many years been Clerk to the Don District Salmon Fishery Board and Honorary Secretary of the Aberdeen Association of Royal Warrant Holders. Outside the office, George enjoys skiing, curling, cycling, fishing and has an interest in classic cars.
